A popup in a SpecCheck internal tool loaded in visible stages — an empty modal, then a title, then buttons, then data. Technically it worked, but it looked broken.
The tempting fix was a loading skeleton. That would have hidden the symptom, not solved it.
Tracing the flow — controller, endpoints, data mapping — showed the popup was regenerating an expensive "scope" from scratch, even though the same data already existed once the main table had loaded.
The fix: drop the redundant query. The popup now reuses the scope already available from the selected row, leaving only one lightweight request for change history.
Result: the popup opens instantly — title, buttons, layout all present immediately — while history data streams in the background, with no loss of functionality.
Content constraint: no real code or UI from SpecCheck is shown here — this account is told in words, optionally alongside a hand-drawn diagram or an anonymized conceptual mockup.
